Frequently Asked Questions About Car Insurance

Who is covered to drive my car?

The people that are covered to drive your car are the people you choose to insure. You will define this in the 'additional drivers' part of the quote form. Under New Zealand law only the owner of the vehicle is able to insure it. So the owner must specify additional drivers if wanting to insure them. Drivers under 25 aren't covered unless you've named them on the policy.

What is the difference between first party and third party car insurance?

First party car insurance covers policyholders and others covered by the policy in an event of any injury or accident no matter who cause the accident. Third party insurance protects again claims or damage done to another persons vehicle.

What do i do if i am involved in a car accident?

If you are involved in a car accident never admit liability or settle a claim before you talk to us about it. Instead say "I need to talk to my insurance company and they will know what to do". You must provide us with as much information as possibly so we can settle your claim quickly.

Straight after the accident you need to get all the details off the other driver/s involved and any witnesses. Details include their name, address, phone number, registration number and their insurance company. If the person that hit you in uninsured, try to get their license number if possible and ask the driver the make, model and year of their car. If a police officer attends, take their details as well including ID and Name.

As well as the drivers information, be sure to note down the location including streets, landmarks or traffic lights. Basically anything that is useful in identifying the area.

Contact us as soon as possible and we can make the necessary arrangements. Make sure you are always prepared in your car with a pad and pen incase an accident does occur.
